The weather gods have finally turned it on for the women's State of Origin in Newcastle, with NSW set to kick off their series defence under balmy conditions at McDonald Jones Stadium.
This is the third time a women's Origin match has been played in Newcastle, and the first time it hasn't been held in wet conditions. Both previous encounters in the city were rain-affected and belonged to Queensland.
Fans, mostly dressed in Blues colours, are flocking to Turton Road for the opening match of this year's series. The positive weather could be a sign that this year might belong to the home side.
