City of Vincent Installs Updated Plaque Honouring 39 Newly Found Servicemen
Vincent Installs Plaque with 39 Newly Found Servicemen

The City of Vincent has installed a new commemorative plaque at Axford Park in Mt Hawthorn, honouring dozens of servicemen whose contributions were previously unrecorded. Rather than adding a secondary plaque, the City replaced the original to ensure the newly identified servicemen are recognised with equal prominence and dignity.

Updated Plaque Features 223 Names

The updated plaque now lists 223 names, including 39 servicemen recently uncovered through community-led historical research. The original memorial was first installed in February 2015. However, ten years later, Perth historian David Murray contacted the City with detailed findings identifying several local men who had not been included.

Mayor Acknowledges Community Contribution

Vincent Mayor Alison Xamon said contributions such as Mr Murray's enrich the city's history. “Mr Murray’s research has played an important role in ensuring these soldiers are recognised in our local story,” she stated.

Formal Recognition on ANZAC Day

Mayor Xamon will formally acknowledge the updated plaque and the additional names during the City’s ANZAC Day march and service on April 25. The City encourages residents to attend and pay their respects to all servicemen honoured at the park.
