Surprise results in both heats of the Mandurah Middle Distance Challenge (647m) at Tabtouch Park Mandurah last Friday proved once again that nothing can be taken for granted in greyhound racing.
Heat One: Reinvigorated Stuns Miss Envy
In the opening heat, Reinvigorated denied Miss Envy, which was sent out as an unbackable $1.10 favourite. Reinvigorated snapped an 11-race losing sequence after setting up her victory with a good jump from the pole to secure a front-running position along the rail.
She fought off an initial challenge from Incredible Shine before being joined by Miss Envy as they rounded out of the first turn. Miss Envy, a multiple group 1 winner and current greyhound of the year, levelled up to the leader and threatened to zoom past in the back straight but Reinvigorated proved difficult to dislodge.
Reinvigorated dug deep to hold the lead and then edged away in the home straight to score by more than two lengths in 37.46.
Heat Two: Cashing Out Outruns Iron Works
Cashing Out also found the early lead, storming out of box five and riding a bump on the corner to clear the field and give himself a big advantage in the back straight. Iron Works powered home late but had given the leader too much of a head start and Cashing Out rolled on to score comfortably in 37.49.
All four dogs will compete against one another in this Friday’s final.
