Lachie Neale Breaks Silence on Co-Parenting Amid AFL Scandal
AFL superstar Lachie Neale has publicly addressed his life co-parenting with ex-wife Jules Neale, just months after she relocated to Western Australia with their two children. The Brisbane Lions player, who found himself at the centre of tabloid headlines during the off-season due to an alleged affair, spoke candidly in an interview with The Age, marking his first open comments on parenting since the scandal broke in December.
Navigating Cross-State Co-Parenting Challenges
Neale revealed the difficulties of managing a co-parenting arrangement across state lines, expressing gratitude for Jules's flexibility. "It's obviously tough not having the kids here, but I'm pretty lucky that Jules, their mother, allows me to come and go from Perth," he said. "I get Piper over here a fair bit ... I am very fortunate that Jules has been very flexible with that, and I am able to go back to Perth with the club's blessing whenever I want." This arrangement has allowed him to maintain a strong connection with his children despite the geographical distance.
Club Support and Personal Reflections
The dual Brownlow medallist also highlighted the unwavering support from the Brisbane Lions, who have accommodated his need to travel for family visits. "If I have to miss a day of training or whatever they are happy for that to happen. I am managing that pretty well so far. It is only early in the year, but the footy season will just fly by, and it will be the off-season again," Neale explained. This backing has been crucial as he balances professional commitments with parental responsibilities.
In a separate interview with Triple M's The Rush Hour, Neale confessed to the personal toll of the media frenzy surrounding the alleged affair. "When it's your personal lives and your private matters, you probably don't think it's newsworthy," he stated. "In a sense I get it, I'm the captain of a footy club but it felt over the top. It was pretty crazy there for a while, and it's great to have the footy back on which has taken over the headlines." He admitted to letting many people down, underscoring the emotional impact on his family.
Looking Ahead to Milestone Game
Neale's revelations come as he prepares to play his 300th AFL game on Sunday, with the Brisbane Lions set to face the Adelaide Crows at the Gabba. This milestone marks a significant moment in his career, juxtaposed against the backdrop of recent personal challenges. As the season progresses, Neale remains focused on both his athletic performance and his role as a father, navigating the complexities of public scrutiny and private life in the spotlight.
