Emerging Fremantle Dockers forward Pat Voss has emphatically secured his future in purple, signing a new three-year contract that ties him to the club until at least the end of the 2027 AFL season.
The deal is a significant show of faith in the 21-year-old, who was initially selected with pick 39 in the 2021 national draft. After patiently developing his game, Voss has broken through in 2024, playing 12 senior games and becoming a crucial part of the Dockers' attacking structure.
The Pillars of Voss's Rapid Rise
Speaking after putting pen to paper, Voss was quick to credit the club's environment and a specific, relentless focus on improvement for his accelerated development. "The main thing for me has just been consistency," Voss explained. He highlighted a dedicated routine built around core football skills that has become non-negotiable.
"I do a lot of repetition with my marking and my kicking," he said. This daily commitment, often involving extra sessions with coaches and teammates beyond mandatory training, has been the bedrock of his progress. The forward's dedication extends to the analysis suite, where he spends considerable time reviewing his own performances and studying the game's elite key position players.
Earning Trust and Cementing a Role
Voss's new contract is a direct reward for the trust he has built with senior coach Justin Longmuir and the match committee. His ability to play a selfless, team-oriented role as a key forward has made him a valuable asset. He prides himself on bringing the ball to ground for Fremantle's dangerous small forwards when he cannot mark it himself, a discipline highly valued by the coaching staff.
The young Docker also pointed to the influence of his teammates and the positive culture at the Cockburn headquarters as a major factor in his desire to stay long-term. "I love the club, I love the boys, I love the coaches," Voss stated, emphasising that the decision to extend was an easy one. The security of a three-year deal allows him to focus purely on football and continuing his upward trajectory without distraction.
What This Means for Fremantle's Future
Securing Voss on a long-term deal is a strategic win for Fremantle's list management. It stabilises a key position that has seen its share of instability in recent years and provides a promising building block alongside Jye Amiss and Josh Treacy in the forward line. The contract signals the club's belief that Voss can develop into a permanent, impactful AFL forward.
For Voss, the work is just beginning. "I've just got to keep improving every part of my game," he acknowledged. With his future now secure, the focus shifts entirely to repaying the faith shown in him and helping propel the Fremantle Dockers up the AFL ladder in the coming seasons.
