Fremantle Dockers Introduce Heritage Verse to Club Song After Wins
In a significant shift for the Fremantle Dockers, the team has altered the way they celebrate victories by incorporating an additional verse into their traditional club anthem. This change, which mirrors the practice of the club's women's team, was spearheaded by star midfielder Andrew Brayshaw following a commanding win over Melbourne on Saturday night.
Brayshaw Drives Song Update and Inspires Team with Immortal Message
Andrew Brayshaw, who delivered a stellar performance with game-highs of 10 score involvements and 39 disposals, took the initiative to reintroduce the heritage verse. Previously, the players began their post-match chant with "Freo, way to go", but now they start with "We're the rollers and the rockers... we're the mighty Freo Dockers". This adjustment aims to honor the club's roots and ensure the full song is represented in celebrations.
Caleb Serong, another key midfielder, confirmed Brayshaw's role in the change, stating on SEN that "Andy Brayshaw's taken hold of the song" and emphasized the importance of including "what the real song is". The move has been well-received, adding depth to the team's post-victory rituals.
Beyond the song, Brayshaw has also inspired his teammates with a motivational message displayed in the changerooms: "The first 22 men to win a premiership at Fremantle will be immortals." He revealed that this idea was inspired by his father, Mark Brayshaw, from his North Melbourne days, and it has become a driving force for the squad's daily efforts and aspirations.
Performance Boost and Team Unity Highlighted
The song change comes after Brayshaw's impressive rebound from a quiet season opener against Geelong, where he managed only 14 disposals. His leadership on and off the field has bolstered team morale, with players embracing the enhanced anthem as a symbol of unity and heritage. This update not only enriches the celebratory atmosphere but also strengthens the Dockers' connection to their history as they pursue future successes in the AFL.
