Fremantle's celebrations of an eighth consecutive victory have been dampened after scans revealed captain Alex Pearce sustained a knee injury in the dying moments of the match. The heart and soul skipper copped the blow during the final play of the game when his foot became trapped while attempting to tackle Hawthorn's Connor Macdonald, leaving him in significant discomfort in the rooms post-game.
Scan Results Confirm MCL Injury
Scans conducted on Friday confirmed that Pearce has suffered a low-grade MCL injury, which will rule him out of next weekend's clash against Essendon. Executive General Manager of Football Joe Brierty provided an update on the 30-year-old's condition. "Pleasingly, scans have shown it's not a significant injury," Brierty said. "Early signs are positive and we will continue to reassess Alex's functionality and provide further updates as they come to hand."
Impact on Fremantle's Campaign
This setback is a bitter blow for Pearce, who has battled lower leg injuries throughout his career. The Dockers have a nine-day break before the Essendon clash, which works in his favor. However, the five-day turnaround until the St Kilda game on May 22 leaves him in serious doubt of facing Ross Lyon's side.
The Dockers will need to adjust their defensive structure without their influential leader as they aim to maintain their winning momentum. Stay tuned for further updates on Pearce's recovery and availability.
