In a major coup for the WAFL competition, former Richmond Tigers defender Jacob Blight has inked a two-year deal with the Subiaco Lions, set to join the club for the 2026 season.
The 23-year-old key defender, who was delisted by Richmond after two seasons at AFL level, has committed to the Lions until at least the end of 2027, providing significant reinforcement to Subiaco's backline.
Building for the Future
Subiaco football manager Mark Lawrence expressed excitement about securing Blight's services, highlighting the defender's professional experience and physical presence as key assets for the club.
"Jacob brings that AFL system knowledge and professionalism that will be invaluable for our younger players," Lawrence stated. "At 197cm tall, he provides that key defensive post we've been looking to strengthen."
From Tigerland to Western Australia
Blight's journey to Subiaco follows his departure from Richmond, where he was selected with pick No. 12 in the 2023 mid-season draft. During his time at Punt Road, the strong-marking defender developed his game at VFL level with Richmond's reserves side.
The Western Australian native now returns to his home state, joining a Subiaco outfit determined to climb the WAFL ladder after several challenging seasons.
