WA builders win big at Australian Home of the Year awards
WA builders win at Home of the Year awards

Two West Australian builders have been recognised at this year’s Australian Home of the Year awards, announced last weekend. The Rural Building Company claimed the project home of the year prize for a thoughtfully designed residence in Oldbury, which also served as WA’s finalist in the overall home of the year category.

Winning design features classic Australian aesthetic

The winning home boasts a classic Australian look, starting with its front elevation. Bush pole supports, corrugated steel accents, and a wide veranda that extends to an alfresco area define its character. The design reflects a deep understanding of Australian living, blending indoor and outdoor spaces seamlessly.

Chris Guilbert, from Tenfold Homes, was awarded the emerging builder award. Over the past 15 years, Mr Guilbert has transformed the Welshpool-based business from a renovation specialist into a premium custom and boutique builder, demonstrating remarkable growth and dedication to quality craftsmanship.

Cloudbreak takes top honour

A five-level vertical residence built on a challenging Gold Coast cliff edge beat out six finalists from across the country to claim the overall home of the year title. The aptly named Cloudbreak is half of a duplex but delivers the privacy and permanence of a standalone home. It features a basement wellness retreat and cinema, a master suite, open-plan living, and a rooftop terrace with a pool, spa, and helipad. Glass floor panels link every level, drawing in natural light and offering stunning views of the nearby hinterland. The home was also named Australian townhouse of the year.

“The winning projects redefine what’s possible in terms of innovation; they’re setting new benchmarks for the industry,” said HIA’s managing director Jocelyn Martin. “The awards allow us to acknowledge winners for their skill and commitment to quality construction, design and material selection.”

Other WA finalists

Other WA finalists included Adrian Zorzi in the apartment complex and apartment of the year categories. His top-floor, three-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom apartment features keyless entry, polished stone flooring, Forimstone and Q stone surfaces, and European appliances. Western suburbs builder Giorgi was a finalist in the custom home category for a contemporary, Mediterranean-influenced home positioned to capture sweeping views of Freshwater Bay.
