West Coast Eagles defender Harry Edwards will be on managed minutes as he makes his comeback from the latest concussion, with the club taking a cautious approach to his return.
Managed Return
The 23-year-old key defender has been sidelined since suffering a concussion in the Eagles' round 13 loss to Sydney. He will return via the WAFL this weekend, but will be on a limited game time as he builds his fitness and confidence.
Eagles general manager of football Gavin Bell said the club would be cautious with Edwards, who has a history of concussions.
"Harry has been through a thorough process with our medical team and we are confident he is ready to return," Bell said.
"But we will be managing his minutes in the WAFL this weekend as he builds his match fitness and gets back into the swing of things."
History of Concussions
Edwards has now suffered at least three concussions in his AFL career, with the latest coming after a collision with teammate Tom Barrass. The club has been working closely with him to ensure he is fully recovered before returning to the field.
"We have a duty of care to Harry and all our players, and we won't take any risks with their health," Bell said.
"Harry has been open and honest about how he has been feeling, and we have worked through a return-to-play protocol that is tailored to his needs."
The Eagles are in a rebuilding phase and have been giving game time to younger players. Edwards, who has played 44 games for the club, will be an important part of their future if he can stay on the park.
"Harry is a talented player and we want to see him back playing good footy," Bell said.
"But we also want to make sure he is healthy and happy, and that he can have a long career."
