King Pedro is the standout selection in Race 6, the Ranvet Stayers Cup (2400 metres), at Rosehill this Saturday. The gelding has been unlucky in recent starts, finishing strongly after being held up over 2000m two weeks ago. Down in the weights, proven at the distance, and drawn nicely, he has every chance to post a deserved win.
Race 1: Midway Handicap (1300m) – 11:00am
She Swings is the top pick after running excellent late sectionals behind Smashing Time two weeks ago. She handles all ground and has the speed to be competitive. Cold Brew, resuming with a closing fourth on heavy ground, is a threat with extra distance. Presides has won on heavy tracks recently, while Cape Byron should improve second-up.
How to play it: She Swings WIN.
Race 2: TAB Highway Handicap (1500m) – 11:35am
Red Rags To Bulls has been unlucky in recent runs, getting back in the field and not getting breaks until too late. Drawn better this time, she can be more forward and handles all ground. Saintly Sands is in career-best form with dominant wins on soft ground, while Hammoon Sensation and Navy Buoy are also chances.
How to play it: Red Rags To Bulls WIN.
Race 3: Kia Ora Bloodlines To Headlines Handicap (1100m) – 12:10pm
Gorgeous has been costly to follow but everything went wrong last start, yet she still finished under a length behind. Gets a smother this time and could bounce back. Benevac is close to a win after two excellent runs, while Jarrito is a promising filly who cruised home on resuming.
How to play it: Gorgeous WIN.
Race 4: Irresistible Pools And Spas Handicap (1400m) – 12:45pm
Tarzing put the writing on the wall first-up with a closing third behind Surf's Up over track and trip. Draws better this time and was well supported fresh. Maybe Moet left it too late last start but is an eye-catcher, while Big Papa is progressive and Konsa is worth including despite a class hike.
How to play it: Tarzing WIN.
Race 5: Find Your Eternal Warrior @ The Chase Handicap (1400m) – 1:20pm
Surf's Up landed handier to the speed two weeks ago and won easily. Rises 1.5kg but has barrier one again and must be the one to beat. Bella Corazon rarely runs a bad race, while Virgil's Gift and Flying Embers are also chances.
How to play it: Surf's Up WIN.
Race 6: Ranvet Stayers Cup (2400m) – 1:55pm
King Pedro has had near misses in recent starts, going for home at Gosford before being cut down, then held up over 2000m. Down in the weights, proven at the trip, and drawn nicely, he has plenty to like. Black Run is a tough on-pace stayer who fought on in the Winter Cup, while Pinhole drops 7kg on his win over this distance. Sounds Unusual is on the back up after an even effort.
How to play it: King Pedro WIN.
Race 7: Rosehill Bowling Club Handicap (1800m) – 2:35pm
Existential Bob suggested he's back in great order with a slashing second over unsuitable 1400m. Extra distance suits and he's versatile. Perfect Play is regularly around the mark, while Inquiring Minds and Hovland are also chances.
How to play it: Existential Bob WIN.
Race 8: TAB W J McKell Cup (2000m) – 3:15pm
Zaphod is racing well at this level with a second in the Gosford Cup and a close third in the Lord Mayors Cup. A bit of give in the ground suits him. God's Window won over a mile second-up and stayed at the trip when second behind Formal Display. Know Thyself and Golden Path are also in the mix.
How to play it: Zaphod WIN.
Race 9: Schweppes Handicap (1200m) – 3:50pm
Sanctified is enjoying a handy preparation, winning from off the speed on heavy then sitting closer behind Big Papa. Draw suits and he has form on all ground. Exit Fee is coming out of Highway grade but is in smooth form, while Just Too Fly returns as a gelding after a good trial.
How to play it: Sanctified WIN.
Race 10: Petaluma Handicap (1500m) – 4:30pm
Mr Chaplin produced a slick late burst to score on Australian debut at Randwick. He has upside and can take a position from a handy draw. Emirate left his run late to win over this course two weeks ago and drops 3kg. Hollywood Hero runs better second-up, while Elliptical and Mawjood are also chances.
How to play it: Mr Chaplin WIN.
