Jack Doohan Joins Haas as Reserve Driver After Alpine Exit

Australian racing driver Jack Doohan has been named as a reserve driver for Formula 1 team Haas, the team announced on Tuesday. Doohan, 23, joins Ryo Hirakawa of Japan as reserves for the American team for the 2026 season.

Doohan started last season as one of Alpine's main drivers but was dropped after the opening six rounds. He had been with Alpine since 2022 after coming up through the Red Bull Junior program from 2017-21. His best finish last season was 13th at the Chinese Grand Prix on March 23.

Alpine replaced him with Franco Colapinto of Argentina, who remains with the team in 2026. Doohan still was under contract, but the team said on Jan. 13 that it reached a mutual agreement to allow him to pursue other career opportunities. He continued to work with Alpine as a test driver and a reserve after being demoted.

“I'm thrilled to be joining TGR Haas F1 Team,” Doohan said in a news release. “It's the ideal place to continue my Formula 1 career. I would like to thank the team for giving me the opportunity to grow and take on the great challenge of 2026 together.”

The F1 season begins March 8 at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
