Jack Doohan Joins Haas as Reserve Driver for 2026 F1 Season

Australian racing driver Jack Doohan has been named as a reserve driver for the Haas Formula 1 team for the 2026 season, the team announced on Tuesday. Doohan, 23, will share reserve duties with Japan's Ryo Hirakawa.

Doohan started the 2025 season as one of Alpine's main drivers but was dropped after the first six races. He was replaced by Franco Colapinto, who remains with Alpine in 2026. Doohan's best finish last season was 13th at the Chinese Grand Prix on March 23.

Despite being under contract, Alpine and Doohan reached a mutual agreement on January 13 to end his driving services for 2026, allowing him to pursue other opportunities. Doohan continued as a test and reserve driver for Alpine after his demotion. Alpine finished last in the constructors' standings in 2025.

Doohan had been with Alpine since 2022, having previously been part of the Red Bull Junior program from 2017 to 2021. He served as a reserve driver for Alpine in 2023 and most of 2024, and raced in seven Grands Prix across 2024 and 2025.

“I'm thrilled to be joining TGR Haas F1 Team,” Doohan said in a news release. “It's the ideal place to continue my Formula 1 career. I would like to thank the team for giving me the opportunity to grow and take on the great challenge of 2026 together.”

The 2026 Formula 1 season begins March 8 at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.
