One of Western Australia's top draft prospects, Koby LeCras, is facing a potential months-long absence after suffering a knee injury in his league debut for West Perth against South Fremantle last weekend. The injury could rule him out of the entire Under-18 National Championships, which are set to begin in June.
LeCras, who turned 18 last Sunday, is scheduled to see a specialist early next week to determine the full extent of the setback. The West Australian understands he is almost certain to miss the state's campaign in the championships.
The 193cm forward is the son of former North Melbourne and West Perth player Brent LeCras and the nephew of West Coast great Mark LeCras, who kicked 441 goals in 219 games for the Eagles and was part of their 2018 premiership victory. Koby had been considered one of the best prospects out of WA this year, having trained with the Eagles over the summer as part of his National Academy duties.
In his league debut for West Perth, LeCras recorded seven disposals and three marks. The previous week, he had three goals, eight disposals, and seven marks for the AFL Academy against Richmond's VFL side in Melbourne. The crafty forward will now wait to see the extent of his injury before it is determined if he will play at all this year.
