Victoria's freshly appointed Liberal opposition leader Jess Wilson has marked economic management as her paramount mission, committing to confront the state's escalating debt predicament that she claims is burning through taxpayer funds at an alarming rate of $2 million every hour.

In her inaugural major interview since assuming leadership, the 35-year-old legal professional and mother articulated her blueprint for Victoria, guaranteeing reduced taxation and judicial improvements while justifying her qualifications to guide the state.
"State net debt is increasing by $2 million each and every hour," Wilson emphasised during her discussion with 7NEWS.
"The consequence is we're disbursing unprecedented sums in interest payments. This financial burden prevents us from employing additional teachers, funding more nurses, and upgrading our educational facilities."
Crime and Housing Affordability in Focus
Wilson, who represents the demographic cohort set to constitute the largest voting bloc at the forthcoming state election, asserted that prudent economic stewardship lies "at the core of state governance" and committed to "repair the budget to enable renewed investment in Victoria."
Addressing law and order concerns, Wilson pledged "rational judicial reform" and modifications to sentencing legislation, expanding upon initiatives launched by her predecessor Brad Battin.
"Victorians feel apprehensive within their residences, anxious in their workplaces, and fearful to walk public streets," she conveyed.
The millennial leader also confronted the housing affordability emergency, disclosing that state government levies, fees and charges constitute 40 percent of new home expenses.
"Numerous acquaintances and individuals within my circle have entirely abandoned hope of ever possessing their own property," Wilson revealed.
