Couple Terrorised in NSW Home Invasion as Stolen Ute Rams Gate and Ignites
A couple in their 50s endured a harrowing home invasion in Oakville, New South Wales, when a stolen utility vehicle smashed through their front gate and was deliberately set ablaze in the early hours of Saturday morning. The violent incident unfolded around 2am on Bocks Road, located approximately 49 kilometres northwest of Sydney, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Violent Threats and Property Damage
After ramming the gate, a group of offenders exited the stolen ute and proceeded to shatter several windows of the residence. Armed with a firearm and a machete, they then threatened the occupants—a man and woman both aged in their 50s—with lethal force if they refused to open the door. One resident recounted to 7NEWS that the intruders explicitly threatened to kill the couple, heightening the terror of the situation.
Police Response and High-Speed Chase
Upon arrival, police officers witnessed four individuals fleeing the scene on foot, while a fifth suspect allegedly drove away in a hatchback vehicle. A pursuit ensued, with the hatchback driver reportedly reaching speeds of up to 120 kilometres per hour in a zone designated for 50 kilometres per hour. The chase concluded on Fontana Drive in Gables, where the driver abandoned the car and escaped on foot, evading immediate capture.
Major Search Operation and Arrest
A significant police search was immediately launched, involving resources from PolAir, the Dog Unit, and the Raptor Squad, which specialises in targeting serious and organised crime. Shortly thereafter, authorities arrested a 17-year-old boy, charging him with seven offences, including special aggravated break and enter with intent while armed with a dangerous weapon. The teenager remains before the court as legal proceedings continue.
Ongoing Investigation and Suspect Descriptions
Police have indicated that the current occupants of the home were likely not the intended targets of the invasion, suggesting a possible case of mistaken identity or unrelated motives. Four other offenders remain at large, prompting investigators to release closed-circuit television footage of two men believed to possess crucial information. The suspects are described as being of Pacific Islander appearance, aged approximately 18 to 20 years old, and standing about 175 centimetres tall. They were seen wearing black tracksuit pants, jumpers, and surgical masks that concealed their faces during the incident.
