Violent Road Rage Erupts on Busy Perth Highway

A 31-year-old man has been hit with multiple criminal charges following an alleged road rage attack that turned violent on a busy highway off-ramp in Perth's inner eastern suburbs.

The incident unfolded on Monday morning across the neighbouring suburbs of Wattle Grove and Welshpool, sparking a significant police response and investigation.

How the Highway Confrontation Unfolded

According to police reports, the confrontation began around 9am on Monday morning when a silver Toyota Corolla was travelling south on Roe Highway through Wattle Grove.

Police allege the Toyota was being tailgated by a silver Ford Focus hatchback, creating tension between the drivers that would soon escalate dramatically.

When both vehicles came to a stop at the Roe Highway off-ramp, the situation turned violent. Occupants from the Ford Focus allegedly approached the victim's vehicle armed with a pole.

"Police will allege the occupants of the Ford Focus approached the victim's vehicle and smashed multiple windows with a pole, before assaulting the victim," a police spokeswoman confirmed.

Charges Laid as Investigation Continues

Cannington police have charged the 31-year-old man with three serious offences following the incident. The charges include:

Criminal damage for the smashed vehicle windows

Being armed in a way that may cause fear for carrying the pole during the confrontation

Assault occasioning bodily harm for the physical attack on the driver

The accused has been scheduled to appear in the Armadale Magistrates Court on January 22 to face these charges.

Police revealed that a second person had been assisting with their investigation but has since been released pending further inquiries by officers.

Appeal for Witnesses to Come Forward

Investigators are urging any witnesses who may have seen the violent altercation or have relevant information to come forward.

Police have asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers online or by calling 1800 333 000 as they continue their investigation into the disturbing incident.

Authorities have also indicated that footage of the incident can be uploaded directly to investigators through their online portal, suggesting they're particularly interested in any dashcam or mobile phone video that might have captured the confrontation.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of how quickly road disagreements can escalate into dangerous violence, with police likely to use this case to highlight the serious consequences of road rage behaviour.
