Four Facing Court Over Alleged Bega Park Murder

Four individuals have been formally charged with murder following the alleged stabbing death of 43-year-old Gordon Kessey in southern New South Wales. The incident occurred in the early hours of October 6, when emergency services were called to a park on East Street in Bega.

Police discovered Mr Kessey with fatal stab wounds at the scene. Despite the efforts of paramedics, he could not be revived and was pronounced dead. A second man, aged 45, was also found with stab wounds. He was rushed to hospital for treatment and survived the attack.

Complex Investigation Leads to Multiple Arrests

After more than six weeks of intensive investigation under Strike Force Nackstone, police moved to make arrests. At approximately 7:30 am on Thursday, officers executed three simultaneous search warrants at properties in Bega and the nearby town of Bemboka.

This police action resulted in the arrest of four people. Acting Inspector Luke Walsh of the South Coast Police District described the case as a "complex homicide investigation." He confirmed the inquiry involved multiple crime scenes and extensive forensic and investigative searches.

In the week leading up to the arrests, investigators had already uncovered significant evidence. Weapons and electronic devices were located during searches of homes and local wetlands in the Bega area.

Charges Laid and Court Appearances

The four accused faced the Bail Division Court on Friday. The group includes three men: Benjamin Keith Robinson, 34, Dion Lloyd, 32, and Kody Lloyd, 29, along with 19-year-old Latisha Mundy.

All four have been charged with both murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder. Additionally, Dion Lloyd and Latisha Mundy were each charged with a separate count of possessing an illicit firearm.

The court formally refused bail for all defendants. They are scheduled to make their next appearance before the Batemans Bay Local Court on January 19.

Acting Inspector Walsh indicated that the investigation is far from over. Police have "located a number of knives" but are still searching for a specific dagger believed to have been used in the alleged incident. He also stated that investigators imagine "there’s going to be more people arrested at some point," expressing confidence that this would happen further down the track.

He thanked the public for providing a lot of information and assured the community that there was no reason for concern following these arrests. Investigations under Strike Force Nackstone continue.
