Sydney teen charged over alleged public shooting plot

A 17-year-old boy is set to face a children's court after being charged over alleged plans for a public shooting, following a dramatic police chase that ended on a Western Sydney golf course.

Dramatic Arrest on the Green

The incident unfolded on Monday night when police spotted a Porsche Cayenne being driven suspiciously on Mona Street in South Granville around 9:45pm. Officers pursued the luxury vehicle until it crashed through a fence and came to a stop on the putting green at Woodville Golf Club.

Police allege several occupants fled from the crashed Porsche. A significant operation involving the police helicopter, dog squad, and highway patrol was launched to search the surrounding bushland. Despite the extensive search, only the 17-year-old boy was apprehended.

Alarming Discovery in the Vehicle

Upon searching the abandoned SUV, officers made a disturbing discovery. They allegedly found a loaded, unauthorised firearm and jerry cans inside the vehicle. The Porsche itself is believed to have been taken without the owner's consent.

Detectives have since linked the teen to more sinister plans. According to reports, investigators believe the boy was involved with underworld figures planning a public shooting. The firearm and the vehicle have been seized and will undergo forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.

Multiple Serious Charges Laid

The arrested teenager now faces a series of serious charges. These include:

  • Possessing an unauthorised prohibited firearm.
  • Participating in a criminal group contributing to criminal activity.
  • Being carried in a conveyance taken without the owner's consent.
  • Attempting to shoot with intent to murder.

The 17-year-old has been refused bail and is scheduled to appear before a children's court on Friday. Police are continuing their efforts to locate the other individuals who fled from the crashed car and have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers immediately.
