Trainee Surgeon Faces 908 Charges Over Secret Hospital Toilet Filming
Surgeon faces 908 charges over secret hospital filming

A trainee surgeon accused of secretly filming hundreds of people in the toilets and showers of major Melbourne hospitals is now facing a staggering total of 908 criminal charges.

Hundreds of New Charges Laid

Ryan Cho, a 27-year-old Singapore national, was hit with an additional 775 charges this week. These new allegations include stalking, producing intimate images, and installing an optical surveillance device. This comes on top of the 133 charges police had already laid against him in July and August.

The case centres on allegations that Cho secretly recorded victims while they used facilities at three of Melbourne's most prominent hospitals: the Austin Hospital in Heidelberg, the Royal Melbourne Hospital, and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

Scale of the Alleged Offences

During a previous court appearance in August, it was revealed the scale of the alleged recordings was immense. The court heard Cho had collected up to 10,000 images, including approximately 4,500 intimate videos.

Police allege he used a mobile phone concealed inside a bag, which was placed in hospital toilets to capture the footage without the knowledge or consent of his colleagues and other victims.

Court Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation

Cho faced court in August and was granted bail after his father offered a $50,000 surety. The matter will return to court at a later date as he prepares to answer the enormous list of charges.

The police investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities are continuing their work and urge anyone with any information related to the case to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers immediately.

This shocking case has sent ripples through Melbourne's medical community, raising serious concerns about privacy and safety within workplace environments, even in highly trusted institutions like hospitals.
