Police are investigating a second suspicious fire at the same Townsville home in just two days, sparking concerns that the blazes may have been deliberately lit.
Emergency services were called to the property in the suburb of Rasmussen around 9:30 pm on Tuesday night after reports of a fire. Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames before they could spread to neighbouring homes.
This incident follows a similar fire at the same address on Monday evening. In that case, police were called to the scene just before 8 pm after neighbours reported seeing flames coming from the house. That fire caused significant damage to the structure, but no one was injured.
Detectives from the Townsville Police Station have established a crime scene and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. They are treating both fires as suspicious and are investigating the possibility that they are linked.
Police have not yet confirmed if the home was occupied at the time of either fire, but they have urged residents in the area to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crews remain on standby in the area, and investigators are working to determine the cause of the fires. Forensic teams are expected to examine the scene later this week.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a report online.
