Second Arrest in Sydney Ambush Killing
A second individual has been formally charged in connection with the alleged ambush and murder of 28-year-old father Mal Seve in Sydney's west. The tragic incident unfolded last Friday on Carinya Street in Blacktown, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Daylight Shooting in Blacktown
Mal Seve was ambushed around 11.50am on Friday, in a brazen attack that occurred in front of several bystanders. The assailants allegedly shot the young father, inflicting critical wounds to his neck, chest, and leg. In a stroke of fortune, police were nearby and arrived at the scene within moments.
Despite the rapid response from NSW paramedics who provided emergency treatment, Mr Seve's injuries were too severe, and he could not be saved.
Police Pursuit and Arrests
Following the shooting, two suspects allegedly fled the scene in a black Mazda utility vehicle. Police immediately initiated a pursuit of the getaway car.
The chase concluded hundreds of metres away on Kildare Road, where the Mazda crashed. The two passengers then attempted to escape on foot. However, their freedom was short-lived. Both men, aged 18 and 25, were quickly apprehended by police. The older man was taken to hospital under police guard for treatment of minor injuries sustained during the incident.
The 25-year-old man was discharged from hospital on Sunday and transported to Blacktown Police Station. There, he was charged with a series of serious offences, including murder, use of an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, being carried in a conveyance taken without consent, hindering or resisting a police officer, and breach of bail.
He was refused bail and is scheduled to face Blacktown Local Court on Monday. The 18-year-old man faced similar charges on Saturday, was also refused bail, and appeared in court the same day.
