A dramatic police chase through the streets of western Sydney culminated in a luxury SUV crashing through a fence and onto a putting green late Monday night, sparking a major manhunt for several fleeing occupants.
Pursuit Ends on the Fairway
The incident began around 9:45 PM on Monday when officers noticed a Porsche Cayenne being driven suspiciously on Mona Street in South Granville. Police initiated a pursuit, following the high-performance vehicle for several kilometres through the suburb.
The chase came to a sudden end at the Woodville Golf Club, where the Porsche crashed through a perimeter fence and came to rest on a putting green. Upon impact, "a number of occupants" fled from the damaged SUV on foot, disappearing into the surrounding darkness.
Major Search Operation Launched
Police immediately deployed significant resources to track down the individuals who fled. A police helicopter, dog squad, and highway patrol officers converged on the area to conduct an extensive search of the golf course and nearby bushland.
The operation led to the arrest of a 17-year-old boy who was located hiding in nearby scrub. He was taken to Parramatta Police Station and is currently assisting police with their inquiries. As of Tuesday morning, a number of other individuals connected to the incident remain at large.
Firearm and Cloned Plates Allegedly Found
Upon examining the abandoned Porsche, officers made several concerning discoveries. Police allege that a firearm was located inside the vehicle. Furthermore, they claim the SUV was fitted with "cloned" or falsified number plates.
Both the firearm and the Porsche will now undergo a thorough forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation into the night's events. The circumstances leading up to the initial police attention on Mona Street are also being probed.
