44-Year-Old Man Faces Court After KFC Rampage and Police Stand-Off
Man charged over KFC rampage, police stand-off in Adelaide

A 44-year-old man will face an Adelaide court on Wednesday following a dramatic series of events that allegedly began with a violent rampage at a fast-food outlet and ended with an hours-long police stand-off.

Fast-Food Outlet Allegedly Targeted

The incident commenced at approximately 3:30 pm on Tuesday at a KFC restaurant located on the Salisbury Highway at Mawson Lakes in Adelaide's northern suburbs. Police allege the man demanded food before his behaviour escalated dramatically.

It is further alleged he then used a tyre lever to smash the counter area before stealing items from the premises. Fortunately, no staff or customers were injured during the confrontation. The suspect subsequently left the scene in a Hyundai sedan, travelling along Elder Smith Drive.

Lengthy Negotiations at Parafield Gardens

Detectives tracked the man to a home in Parafield Gardens later that day, at around 6:00 pm. Upon police arrival, the situation intensified. The man is accused of making threats towards the officers and refusing to exit the property.

This initiated a tense negotiation process that lasted for several hours. Specialised police resources were deployed to manage the incident safely. The stand-off was finally resolved just before midnight when officers moved in and arrested the suspect.

Charges Laid After Property Search

A subsequent search of the Parafield Gardens property allegedly led to the discovery of several knives. The 44-year-old man was charged with multiple offences, including:

  • Assault
  • Theft
  • Carrying an offensive weapon
  • Further weapons offences

The accused has been refused police bail and is scheduled to appear before the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Wednesday to answer to the charges.
