Four arrested as police smash alleged drug syndicate in Queensland
Four arrested in Queensland drug syndicate bust

Queensland Police have made a significant breakthrough in their fight against organised crime, arresting four individuals and seizing a haul of illicit substances, cash, and weapons in a targeted operation against an alleged drug trafficking syndicate.

Coordinated Raids Across Multiple Locations

The operation, spearheaded by the Drug and Serious Crime Group's Major and Organised Crime Squad, culminated in a series of coordinated raids on Wednesday, 22 May. Police executed search warrants at properties in three key locations: two in Townsville, one in Deeragun, and another in the Brisbane suburb of Ellen Grove.

The simultaneous strikes were the result of an extensive investigation into the activities of a suspected criminal network operating within the state. The operation's primary focus was to disrupt the alleged supply of dangerous drugs into the Queensland community.

Significant Haul of Drugs and Assets Seized

The police action yielded substantial results. Among the items confiscated were quantities of what is believed to be methylamphetamine (ice), cocaine, and cannabis. The seizure underscores the syndicate's alleged involvement in trafficking multiple types of illicit substances.

In addition to the drugs, officers discovered and seized a significant amount of cash, believed to be the proceeds of crime. The haul also included several weapons and electronic devices, which will undergo forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.

Four Facing Serious Charges

As a direct result of the raids, four people were taken into custody. A 40-year-old Deeragun man, a 39-year-old Townsville woman, a 36-year-old Ellen Grove man, and a 35-year-old Townsville man were all arrested and charged.

The individuals are now facing a range of serious offences related to their alleged roles in the syndicate. The charges include:

  • Possession of dangerous drugs
  • Supplying dangerous drugs
  • Possession of property suspected of being proceeds of crime
  • Possession of weapons

The 40-year-old Deeragun man and the 39-year-old Townsville woman were scheduled to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court on Thursday, 23 May. The two other accused are expected to face court at a later date.

Detective Acting Superintendent Craig McPhee of the Drug and Serious Crime Group commended the investigative work. He emphasised that the operation demonstrates Queensland Police's unwavering commitment to targeting and dismantling organised criminal networks that profit from the harm caused by drug trafficking in local communities.

This major bust serves as a stark warning to those involved in the illicit drug trade. Police investigations are ongoing, and further charges have not been ruled out as authorities continue to follow all lines of enquiry.
