Five More Individuals Charged in Brutal Sydney Kidnapping and Murder Case
In a significant development, five more people have been charged in connection with the alleged kidnapping and murder of a Sydney mother last year. Thi Kim Tran, aged 45, was forcibly taken from her Bankstown residence by masked assailants on April 17, 2025.
Violent Home Invasion and Tragic Outcome
During the violent home invasion, the group also assaulted an eight-year-old boy with a baseball bat, while a 15-year-old boy was present at the time. Tran was forced into a dark SUV at gunpoint, and her body was later discovered in a burnt-out vehicle in Beverly Hills, approximately 6 kilometers from her home.
Link to Transnational Crime Syndicate
Police allege that Tran was targeted due to her husband's involvement in a Victorian transnational crime syndicate involved in drug manufacturing. Authorities previously stated that her husband had stolen up to 80 kilograms of drugs from the syndicate, prompting members to attempt to lure him out for execution and recover the stolen product.
Expanded Police Investigation
When that plan failed, a higher-ranking member allegedly ordered Tran's murder instead. Four individuals from an alleged "kill crew" had already been charged and remain before the courts. The recent charges involve five additional people, some of whom are believed to have been part of another crew.
On the same night as Tran's kidnapping and murder, these crew members were reportedly lying in wait at a rural property in Victoria, intending to kill her husband.
Details of the Arrests and Charges
On December 16, detectives executed a search warrant in Monterey, southern Sydney, arresting a 26-year-old man. He was charged with murder, two counts of conspiring and agreeing to murder any person, possessing an unauthorised firearm, possessing ammunition without a licence, and participating in a criminal group contributing to criminal activity. He was refused bail and appeared in Sutherland Local Court the same day.
In February, a 30-year-old man was arrested at Sydney Airport, followed by two more men, aged 18 and 25, in March. All three face charges of murder, two counts of conspiring and agreeing to murder any person, and participating in a criminal group contributing to criminal activity. They were all refused bail.
The fifth arrest occurred in January at Sydney Airport, where a 22-year-old man was taken into custody. He was charged with the same offences as the others, plus two counts of failing to comply with a digital evidence access order direction. He was refused bail and appeared in court on January 17, with police alleging his involvement in the criminal enterprise responsible for Tran's murder.
Thi Kim Tran's body was found in a burnt-out car in Beverly Hills, Sydney, highlighting the brutal nature of this crime. The investigation continues as authorities work to bring all involved to justice.
