A 30-year-old man from Cairns is scheduled to appear in court following a violent incident in the suburb of Manoora, where he is accused of assaulting another man with a baseball bat.

Alleged Attack in Manoora Street

Queensland Police allege the incident occurred on a Manoora street around 7:30 pm on Tuesday, 26 March 2024. According to the police report, the accused man confronted a 38-year-old local resident, allegedly striking him multiple times with a baseball bat.

The alleged assault resulted in the 38-year-old victim sustaining significant injuries. Emergency services were called to the scene, and the injured man was transported to a Cairns hospital for treatment.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Following the incident, detectives from the Cairns Criminal Investigation Branch launched an inquiry. Their investigation led them to a residence in Manoora on the evening of Wednesday, 27 March.

At that address, police arrested a 30-year-old Manoora man in connection with the alleged attack. He was taken into custody and charged with one count of grievous bodily harm.

Court Proceedings Commence

The accused man was denied police bail and was held in custody overnight. He is set to make his first court appearance in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Thursday, 28 March 2024.
