A 40-year-old man has been taken into custody in Cairns following the discovery of a sawn-off shotgun, ammunition, illicit drugs, and approximately $30,000 in cash during a routine police operation.
Details of the Arrest
Police stopped the vehicle on Mulgrave Road at approximately 3:30 pm on Tuesday. During the search, officers allegedly uncovered a shortened firearm, a quantity of ammunition, multiple bags of suspected drugs, and a significant sum of money. The man was immediately taken into custody and transported to Cairns Watchhouse.
Charges Laid
The accused has been charged with several offences, including unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of dangerous drugs, and possession of property suspected of being proceeds of crime. He is expected to appear before the Cairns Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Police have indicated that investigations are ongoing and further charges may be laid. The seizure of the firearm and drugs is part of a broader effort to combat illegal activity in the region.
