Organised crime detectives have descended on a Perth suburb following a brazen early-morning shooting that authorities believe was a targeted attack connected to the illicit tobacco trade.

Shots Fired on Illawarra Crescent

The incident unfolded in the north-eastern suburb of Ballajura around 1:50am on Friday, 5 December 2025. According to police, an unknown man arrived on foot on Illawarra Crescent before brandishing a firearm.

The individual then fired the weapon towards the front of a commercial premises, suspected to be a shopfront, before fleeing the scene on foot in the direction of Kingfisher Avenue.

Police Focus on Organised Crime Links

Major crime squad officers quickly swarmed the area to conduct inquiries. Detectives have stated their strong belief that this was not a random act, but a deliberate and targeted attack related to illicit tobacco products.

"This appears to be a targeted incident connected to the illegal tobacco market," a police spokesperson indicated, highlighting the ongoing battle against organised crime groups involved in the trade.

Authorities have moved to reassure the public, confirming that no injuries were reported and there is no ongoing risk to general community safety.

Manhunt and Public Appeal

Police are now searching for a suspect described as approximately 170cm tall, with a medium build and a dark complexion. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black hoodie, black pants, and black shoes.

Investigations remain active, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward. They are particularly interested in:

  • Dash-cam video from vehicles in Ballajura around 1:50am.
