A young Canberra man has been remanded in custody after allegedly using a firearm to shoot at and damage a parked car in the city's north.
Alleged Incident in Harrison Driveway
Xander John Martin, 22, from Crace, faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, via audio-visual link. He did not apply for bail during the brief hearing.
ACT Policing alleges the incident occurred around 4:30 pm on Tuesday, January 6. Martin is accused of pulling into the driveway of a home in the suburb of Harrison. It is alleged he then fired a gun at a grey Volkswagen Golf that was parked in the driveway.
Police further claim that after discharging the firearm, Martin used the weapon to strike the Golf multiple times. This alleged assault on the vehicle resulted in the shattering of the back driver's side window.
Arrest and Court Proceedings
Officers located and arrested Martin in the early hours of the following day, at approximately 12:15 am on Wednesday.
In court, defence lawyer Carly Hitchins entered a plea of not guilty on her client's behalf to a charge of discharging a firearm at a conveyance.
Magistrate Glenn Theakston noted that Martin is also scheduled to be sentenced later in January for a series of previous matters, including driving, property damage, and assault offences.
Remanded Ahead of Future Court Date
The magistrate remanded Martin in custody. He is set to face the ACT Magistrates Court again at a later date for the firearm matter.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about firearm-related incidents in the community and will proceed through the ACT justice system.
