Traffic Offences
Several individuals faced charges related to driving under the influence, speeding, and license violations. John Smith, 34, of Geelong, pleaded guilty to exceeding the speed limit by more than 30 km/h and was fined $800 with a three-month license suspension. Another case involved Sarah Johnson, 28, of Belmont, who was charged with driving while disqualified; she received a six-month community corrections order.
Assault and Violence
Assault charges were also prominent. Michael Brown, 45, of Newtown, faced allegations of common assault following an altercation at a local pub. He was granted bail to appear again in June. In a separate incident, David Wilson, 52, of Norlane, was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and was remanded in custody until his next hearing.

Drug-related matters were also heard. A 22-year-old from Highton was charged with possession of methamphetamine and cannabis. He entered a guilty plea and was placed on a drug treatment order. Additionally, a 40-year-old from Leopold faced charges of trafficking a commercial quantity of a controlled substance; the case was adjourned for further investigation.
Other Matters
The court also dealt with breach of family violence orders, with two individuals receiving custodial sentences for violating protection orders. A minor case involving public nuisance was dismissed with a caution. Overall, the day's proceedings reflected a busy session addressing community safety and legal compliance.
