One Nation MP Chantelle Thomas has delivered her first speech in the South Australian parliament, using the opportunity to declare her opposition to net-zero climate policy and her firm pro-life stance.
Controversial Address
The former makeup artist and Lifeline counsellor did not hold back in her maiden address, telling parliament she rejects the state's net-zero emissions target and is committed to protecting life from conception. She also criticised what she described as a 'moral rot' in society, calling for a return to traditional values.
Political Reactions
Ms Thomas's speech comes just a day after One Nation leader Cory Bernardi's own first address, which saw several politicians walk out in protest. Bernardi's speech similarly focused on conservative values and opposition to climate action.
In her address, Thomas said: 'I stand here today to represent the people who have been ignored by the major parties. We need to reject the net-zero agenda that will destroy our economy and our way of life.'
Background
Before entering politics, Thomas worked as a makeup artist and later as a Lifeline counsellor. She was elected to the South Australian Legislative Council at the 2026 state election as a member of Pauline Hanson's One Nation party.
Her speech has drawn sharp criticism from environmental groups and progressive politicians, who accuse her of ignoring climate science and human rights. However, she has received support from conservative commentators who praise her for speaking out against what they see as political correctness.
