Townsville Mayor Nick Dametto has revealed he was almost struck by a reckless driver performing illegal burnouts in the heart of the city. The alarming incident occurred on the evening of Tuesday, May 28, on the busy Flinders Street East.

The mayor was on his way to a community event when he witnessed the dangerous driving firsthand. According to Cr Dametto, a vehicle was performing burnouts directly in front of him, creating a significant hazard. "I was almost collected," Cr Dametto stated, emphasising the seriousness of the near-miss. He immediately reported the incident to the Queensland Police, providing them with crucial details to aid their investigation.
