A tragic incident has unfolded in Melbourne's east, with police investigating a violent stabbing that left a young woman seriously injured and the subsequent discovery of a man's body hundreds of kilometres away.
Violent Confrontation in Kew
In the early hours of Wednesday morning, an 18-year-old woman was returning to her home on Miller Gr in Kew after a night out with friends. According to police reports, she was allegedly confronted and stabbed by a man known to her outside her residence at approximately 1am.
The attack left the young woman with what were initially believed to be life-threatening injuries. She was rushed to hospital, where her condition has since stabilised, and she is now reported to be in a stable condition.
Scene of the Crime
Evidence of the violent altercation was clearly visible at the scene. Bloodstains were found on a wall and on a car parked in the driveway of the property, painting a grim picture of the events that transpired.
Following the alleged attack, detectives launched an active search for an 18-year-old man from Camberwell in connection with the incident.
Body Discovered in Antwerp
In a separate but related development, police received a call at about 6.15am on Wednesday regarding a body found in Antwerp, located approximately 350 kilometres west of Melbourne.
The man's death is not being treated as suspicious by authorities. A report will be prepared for the coroner as part of standard procedures in such cases.
