Danish Royal Couple Welcomed at Government House in Perth During Historic State Visit

Australian-born Queen Mary of Denmark and her husband King Frederik were graciously hosted at Government House in Perth overnight, marking a significant moment in diplomatic relations. The royal couple accepted a formal invitation to stay at the prestigious residence during a brief stopover in Western Australia before embarking on an extensive six-day official tour across the nation.

First Official Visit as Monarchs After Nearly Four Decades

This visit represents the first official state visit by any Danish monarch since Queen Margrethe, the King's mother, visited Australia in 1987—nearly forty years ago. It also marks the inaugural official visit for the couple since ascending to the throne, making this occasion particularly noteworthy for both nations.

WA Governor Chris Dawson and his wife Darrilyn Dawson personally extended hospitality to the distinguished guests. Governor Dawson expressed his honor at hosting the royal visitors, stating, "It was an honor and a pleasure to be able to host Their Majesties The King and Queen of Denmark at Government House. Their visit was a memorable occasion, and we were delighted to extend the hospitality of Government House and share with them some of the history and spirit of our State."

Showcasing Western Australia's Finest Offerings

The Governor and his wife ensured the royal couple experienced the best of Western Australia during their stay. The visit included tours of the beautiful Government House gardens and sampling of some of the state's finest food and wine selections, providing a genuine taste of local culture and hospitality.

Before departing Perth to commence their official program, Queen Mary and King Frederik formally thanked Governor Dawson, Mrs. Dawson, and the entire Government House staff for their warm reception and gracious hospitality during their brief but meaningful stay.

Political Representatives Extend Formal Farewells

Federal Perth MP Patrick Gorman and WA Cabinet Secretary Daniel Pastorelli were present at the tarmac to officially farewell the Danish royals as they departed on Saturday. Mr. Pastorelli shared his impressions of the encounter, noting, "It was a huge honor to briefly meet Their Majesties as part of their official Australian visit. You could tell that the King and Queen were both very excited to be back in Australia. They were friendly, warm and down to earth."

Extensive Australian Tour Schedule Ahead

The royal couple departed Perth for Uluru on Saturday afternoon, where traditional owners will welcome them before they proceed to engagements in Canberra. In the capital, they are scheduled to meet with Governor-General Sam Mostyn and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as part of their official diplomatic program.

Their six-day Australian tour includes public appearances scheduled at Uluru, Canberra, Melbourne, and Queen Mary's hometown of Hobart, Tasmania. The Queen maintains family connections in Tasmania, while her brother John Donaldson is employed in Western Australia's mining industry, adding personal significance to their Australian visit.

The royal couple first met at the Ship Inn Hotel in Sydney during the 2000 Olympic Games and have since built a life together, raising four children while navigating their royal duties and responsibilities.
