Search for Kidnapped Grandfather Intensifies in Sydney Bushland
Police are set to resume a major search operation in Sydney on Monday, focusing on bushland near Glenorie, as efforts continue to locate 85-year-old Chris Baghsarian, who was kidnapped from his North Ryde home on February 13. Authorities have described the incident as a case of mistaken identity and are pleading with his captors for his safe release.
Ongoing Investigation and Family's Anguish
The search, which involved specialist officers and the Dog Squad, extended into Sunday night and will recommence, with police expressing confidence that they are closing in on the suspects. Previously, a property in Dural was searched, where investigators believe the kidnappers may have stayed after the abduction. A 2022 Toyota Corolla linked to the property was later found in Westmead on Tuesday.
Detective Acting Superintendent Andrew Marks has voiced grave concerns for Baghsarian's safety, noting that hope is fading due to his need for daily medication. "We have grave concerns for his safety, but we won't give up trying to find him alive," he stated. In a heartfelt statement, Baghsarian's family described the ordeal as a nightmare, emphasizing that this devastating crime should have had nothing to do with them.
Community Impact and Police Efforts
The kidnapping has sparked widespread alarm in the community, with police urging anyone with information to come forward. The search in Glenorie involves cadaver dogs and extensive resources, highlighting the urgency of the situation as Baghsarian remains missing for over a week. Authorities continue to work tirelessly, emphasizing that every lead is being pursued to ensure his safe return.
