Man and Dog Allegedly Attacked with Steak Knife in Sydney Pub

A shocking incident unfolded at a popular Sydney pub on Sunday evening, where a man and his dog were allegedly assaulted in a violent attack. The 43-year-old pet owner and his French bulldog were reportedly set upon by an unknown assailant while walking through The Sackville Hotel on Darling Street in Rozelle, around 7pm.

According to NSW Police, the alleged offender kicked the dog and assaulted the man with a steak knife, causing significant injuries. The attacker then fled the scene, but authorities tracked him down approximately six hours later.

Victim Hospitalised, Suspect Arrested and Charged

Paramedics treated the 43-year-old victim for lacerations to his head and arm. He was transported to a hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. Following a swift investigation, police arrested a 53-year-old man at a residence on Hargraves Avenue in Punchbowl at 1am on Monday.

The suspect was taken to Campsie Police Station and faced multiple charges, including:

  • Wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
  • Drive motor vehicle while licence suspended
  • Affray
  • Common assault

He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear before Bankstown Local Court on Monday. This case highlights ongoing concerns about public safety and animal welfare in urban areas.
