Sydney Man Abducted by Masked Gang, Held Hostage

Shocking CCTV footage has emerged capturing the terrifying moment a man was violently snatched off the street by four masked individuals in western Sydney, leading to an alleged hostage ordeal that lasted for days.

Early Morning Abduction in Mt Pritchard

The incident occurred at approximately 6:15 am on Tuesday outside a tobacconist on Meadows Road in Mt Pritchard. The 53-year-old victim was reportedly set upon by four men wearing balaclavas, who sprinted into view, lifted him as he struggled to break free, and bundled him into a waiting Hyundai hatchback.

Police allege the man was then driven to a property in Dural, where he was held captive for two days. During this time, he was allegedly assaulted, though specific details of the injuries have not been disclosed by authorities.

Police Raid and Arrest

In a dramatic rescue operation, officers stormed the Dural property around 10:30 am on Thursday, freeing the victim and arresting a 16-year-old boy at the scene. The teenager was taken to Castle Hill Police Station for further inquiries, while the victim was assessed by paramedics and transported to hospital in stable condition.

Authorities have not yet revealed a motive for the alleged kidnapping, stating that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances behind this brazen attack.

History of Crime in the Area

The Mt Pritchard location of the abduction has a troubling history, with the tobacconist and a neighbouring grocery store previously targeted in a series of criminal incidents. These include firebombings, a ram raid, and an armed robbery, highlighting ongoing security concerns in the community.

Additionally, the Dural property is situated about 25 kilometres from where 85-year-old grandfather Chris Baghsarian was held before his death in an alleged case of mistaken identity earlier this year. Baghsarian was abducted from his North Ryde home on February 13, and his body was discovered 11 days later near a golf club in Pitt Town. Two men have been charged in connection with his alleged kidnapping and murder.

Police have emphasized that there is no indication the two incidents are linked, but the proximity has raised questions among local residents about safety in the region.

Community Impact and Ongoing Investigation

This abduction has sent shockwaves through the western Sydney community, with many expressing alarm over the boldness of the crime in a public area. Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to piece together the events leading up to the hostage situation.

The case underscores the importance of vigilance and cooperation with police in combating such violent acts. As the investigation progresses, updates are expected to shed more light on the motives and any potential connections to broader criminal activities.
