Urgent calls for help amid Gold Coast flooding
Major flash flooding emergencies are unfolding across the Gold Coast after the region experienced more than a month's worth of rain in just a few days. Some areas have recorded over 200 millimetres in two days, prompting flood warnings along several waterways, including the Coomera River. The flash flooding has also cut off major roads, and the State Emergency Service has received more than 100 calls for assistance from locals. According to the Bureau of Meteorology, the last time gauges recorded such a wet May day was back in 2015.
Baby among two killed in crash
A young boy and a man have lost their lives in a horrific crash in Sydney's west. The 15-month-old was a passenger in a small sedan that collided head-on with a van at the intersection of Mamre and Abbots Roads in Kemps Creek around 10:40 pm on Monday. A male passenger in the sedan died at the scene, while the baby and his mother, aged 25, were rushed to hospital with critical injuries. Sadly, the young boy passed away hours later. The learner driver of the sedan, a 21-year-old man, and the 45-year-old male van driver sustained minor injuries and have been taken to hospital for mandatory testing. Police have been told that the sedan may have collided with a ute moments before the crash. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
