Incident Details and Arrest
Officers were called to Windermere Avenue around 2:30 PM on Sunday, April 12, after receiving reports of suspicious behavior. Upon arrival, they learned that a man, accused of sexually touching a child in an earlier unreported incident, had been seen nearby.
Investigations led to the arrest of a 22-year-old man in the vicinity. He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station and charged with sexually touching a child between 10 and 16 years old, as well as common assault.
Allegations and Court Proceedings
Police will allege in court that the man sexually touched a 12-year-old girl in Albion Park on Saturday, April 11. This matter was not reported to authorities at the time of the incident.
The accused was granted strict bail and is scheduled to appear at Port Kembla Local Court on Wednesday, April 22.
Separate Suspicious Approach Incident
Authorities are also investigating another incident that occurred on the same day as the alleged sexual touching. It was reported that a man approached two girls, including a 12-year-old, in Frasers Reserve around 5:50 PM on Saturday, April 11.
The individual was acting suspiciously and asked the girls several questions before leaving the area. Police began looking into this second incident on Sunday, April 19, and have obtained mobile phone footage as part of their inquiries.
