Brighton Wine Bar Launches on Scarborough Esplanade with Exclusive Australian Wines
A contemporary wine bar dedicated to showcasing exclusively Australian wines and locally sourced food is set to open this month on the Scarborough Esplanade in Western Australia. Brighton Wine Bar will occupy the corner at the intersection of Brighton Road and the Esplanade, taking over the space previously held by the popular eatery The Wild Fig.
Venue Details and Capacity
The new establishment can accommodate up to 150 guests for group bookings, events, and functions, providing a versatile space for various occasions. In addition to its extensive wine selection, the bar will offer six local tap beers and a Mediterranean-inspired menu. A unique highlight on the cocktail list is a Tim Tam espresso martini, adding a creative twist to the beverage offerings.
Ownership and Vision
The bar is owned by Ben Randall, Marion McAllister, and Lauren Nolan, who have developed the venue with a WA-first approach that prioritises local growers and suppliers. Mr Randall and Ms Nolan also own and operate The Sandbar Scarborough Beach venue, located approximately 350 metres away from the new wine bar.
Mr Randall expressed his hope that Brighton Wine Bar will become a new gathering spot for people to unwind and connect. "Brighton Wine Bar builds on the vibrant scene Scarborough is known for while offering something refreshingly different for locals and visitors alike," he said. "At the heart of Brighton is connection and community. Every decision, from what’s on the plate to what’s poured into the glass, reflects the close relationships we’ve built with local producers and suppliers."
Wine and Menu Highlights
Curated by Adam Collet, around three-quarters of the bar’s wine list will feature wines from Western Australia, emphasising regional support. The menu showcases locally sourced seafood, including:
- Fremantle octopus
- Shark Bay tiger prawns
- Abrolhos Island scallops
Other culinary offerings include fresh-baked focaccia, picanha beef with salsa verde and saffron cassava puree, and handmade seafood ravioli with vongole, saffron foam, and burnt caper butter, served with a selection of sides and salads. The venue also provides gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options to cater to diverse dietary needs.
Design and Atmosphere
Brighton Wine Bar features a curved recycled brick bar as its centrepiece, complemented by custom hand-sculpted lighting created by a Fremantle ceramic lighting studio. Street-side seating with full table service will be available for diners, enhancing the casual yet refined dining experience.
Given its beachfront location, the bar offers stunning views of the Indian Ocean, particularly at sunset. However, Mr Randall emphasised that the relaxed atmosphere is key to attracting repeat customers. "We have a prime position to watch the sun setting over the Indian Ocean, but we hope what keeps guests coming back is our laid-back and approachable yet refined vibe. Whether it is a glass of wine with a few nibbles or settling in for a full meal," he said.
This opening marks a significant addition to Scarborough’s dining and social scene, reinforcing the area’s reputation as a vibrant coastal destination with a strong focus on local produce and community engagement.
