Holland America Line Expands Fleet for Antarctica and South America Cruises
Holland America Line has significantly increased its capacity for the Antarctica and South America 2027–28 cruise season, marking a major shift in its fleet operations. The cruise line recently announced that the Nieuw Amsterdam will replace the Oosterdam in late 2027, representing the first time this vessel will sail in the region.
Enhanced Guest Experience with Nieuw Amsterdam
A spokesperson for Holland America Line stated, "With more space, additional stateroom options, and an elevated guest experience, Nieuw Amsterdam brings added opportunities for guests to explore South America’s vibrant cultures, dramatic fjords, and the breathtaking beauty of Antarctica." This change is expected to provide passengers with improved amenities and more diverse accommodation choices, catering to a growing demand for luxury travel in these remote destinations.
Booking Details and Itinerary Availability
All 2027–28 South America itineraries, including voyages that feature a four-day Antarctic Experience, will be available for booking starting from February 24, 2026. Passengers who have already booked on the Oosterdam will be contacted directly by Holland America Line to discuss their options and any necessary adjustments to their travel plans.
For further information, travelers are encouraged to consult with travel agents or visit the official Holland America Line website. This expansion reflects the cruise industry's ongoing efforts to meet the increasing interest in expedition-style cruising to polar regions and culturally rich areas of South America.
