Perth Grandfather Wins $4.8m Set for Life After Ticket Rides in Glovebox to Albany
Perth Grandfather Wins $4.8m Set for Life Lotto Prize

A Perth grandfather is celebrating a life-changing windfall after discovering a multi-million dollar winning lottery ticket had been riding unnoticed in his car's glovebox during a week-long road trip.

A Winning Ticket Takes a Scenic Detour

The man, who is in his 60s, purchased his Set for Life ticket from the NewsXpress Centrepoint in Midland. Unaware of his good fortune, he then placed the ticket in his glovebox and embarked on a drive from Perth to Albany in Western Australia's Great Southern region for a week-long stay.

It was only upon his return to Perth that he finally checked the ticket. The retailer, whom he has known for years, delivered the astonishing news. "We've been looking for you!" the retailer told the stunned winner.

"I can't believe I had that prize sitting in my glovebox for all that time," the grandfather said, reflecting on the unexpected discovery that will see him receive $20,000 every month for the next two decades.

Perfect Timing for Christmas and Beyond

The revelation, coming just before Christmas, has sparked immediate plans for the substantial prize, which totals a massive $4.8 million. The winner's first major purchase will be a much-needed upgrade for his trusty vehicle.

"My ute is 11 years old and has travelled more than 500,000km, so I am due for an upgrade," he admitted.

Beyond the practical car purchase, the windfall means he can generously spoil his family. "I am looking forward to being able to spoil my grandkids this Christmas," he said, adding that a holiday somewhere in the new year is also on the cards.

A Coincidental Connection to Albany

This win marks the second Set for Life Division One prize claimed in Western Australia in 2025. According to Lotterywest spokesman Jake Battrick, there is a "coincidental connection" to the port city of Albany for both wins this year.

"Twin brothers from Albany shared WA's first Set for Life Division One prize of the year in February, while this winning ticket spent a week in a glovebox travelling to and from the picturesque port city," Battrick explained.

He emphasised the transformative nature of the prize, stating it provides "a fantastic $4.8 million windfall" and true financial security for the winners. The Perth grandfather's story serves as a timely reminder for all punters to check their tickets, especially after a long journey.
