Mirrabooka Grandfather Secures $1.25 Million Saturday Lotto Prize After Decades of Play
A grandfather from Mirrabooka has disclosed that he stored his $1.25 million Saturday Lotto ticket securely in his back pocket for protection before realizing the numbers had earned him a division one prize. The man, who is in his 60s, had been consistently using the same family birthday numbers for more than 25 years when he identified the winning combination on the night of the draw.
Family Celebration and Safe-Keeping of the Winning Ticket
Convinced he had achieved a significant win, though uncertain of the exact amount, he hurried to inform his two children and their partners. They promptly verified that the transformative prize was valued at $1.25 million. Last week, the family made a trip to Lotterywest headquarters to formally claim their windfall, proudly accompanied by their newest family member—a grandchild only a few weeks old.
When questioned about how he safeguarded the valuable ticket during the week-long anticipation period, the grandfather humorously remarked that he kept it "within reaching distance at all times," specifically in his back pocket. This precaution ensured the ticket remained secure until the official claim process.
Additional Major Wins in Western Australia Lotto Scene
The Mirrabooka victory was not the sole reason for celebration among WA Lotto participants. A Saturday Lotto ticket bought from the Galleria Lottery Centre in Morley also secured a division one win over the same weekend, granting its owner an enormous $5 million prize. This WA ticket was one of only two division one winners nationwide, with the second ticket sold in New South Wales.
Raymond Woo, the owner of Galleria Lottery Centre, noted that his store has been lively since the weekend win. "It's pretty great to sell a division one winning ticket," Mr. Woo stated. "It creates a buzz in store with lots of customers asking us about the win and wishing it had been them."
Lotterywest Comments on Recent Winning Streak
Zoe Wender, a spokesperson for Lotterywest, mentioned that the $5 million prize represents WA's largest Saturday Lotto win since May 2024. "It's been wonderful to welcome a flurry of Saturday Lotto winners into the Lotterywest Winners Room over the past few weeks, including the Mirrabooka family with their tiny new addition," she said.
Wender also provided a safety recommendation for ticket holders: "Rather than relying on a pocket, I'd always recommend registering your ticket to a Lotterywest membership for safe-keeping—thank goodness this winner didn't throw his trousers in the washing machine." This advice highlights the importance of secure methods for protecting lottery tickets to avoid potential losses.
