Award-Winning Kitchen Design in Attadale
A breathtaking kitchen in the Perth suburb of Attadale has taken top honours at the prestigious Hart & Co. Kitchen Design Awards. The project, named 'Onda', was created by the acclaimed design firm State of Kin and has been recognised with two major awards.
Double Victory at Prestigious Awards
The stunning residential renovation achieved an impressive double win, securing both the Designer of the Year title and the Kitchen Design Excellence — Over $80,000 category. These awards highlight the exceptional quality and innovation demonstrated in the Attadale project.
Design Philosophy and Client Vision
According to State of Kin director of interiors Alessandra French, the client wanted a home that could grow with their family while being equally suited to daily life and large-scale entertaining. The brief specifically called for light, connection and fluidity while preserving elements of the original 1960s bungalow.
The kitchen's design intentionally references the gentle contours of the surrounding landscape. French explains they wanted the space to feel like a natural extension of the home's architecture rather than a separate zone. This was achieved through curved elements and sweeping joinery lines that guide movement and soften the entire space.
The Sculptural Centrepiece
The most striking feature is undoubtedly the sculptural island that anchors the kitchen. This fluid, curved element encourages natural movement around it while serving as both a functional and artistic centrepiece.
The material palette was carefully selected for warmth and tactility, featuring:
- A plastered island surface
- Imported Italian custom limestone flooring
- Quartzite benchtops
- Timber veneer accents
This combination of natural stone and organic materials creates a sophisticated yet inviting atmosphere that perfectly balances aesthetics with the practical demands of busy family life.
