A late-night walk along the Shellharbour foreshore turned to tragedy for a local woman, who was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car on Monday evening.

The collision occurred on Towns Street, near the popular Shellharbour boat ramp, just after 9pm on Monday, December 1. According to information provided to attending police officers, a man and a woman were on the roadway when a Volkswagen SUV approached them.

A police spokesperson stated that the young driver made a sudden manoeuvre. "The driver allegedly swerved to avoid hitting a 41-year-old man, instead collided with a 35-year-old woman," the spokesperson confirmed.

Emergency Response and Aftermath

Following the impact, the 18-year-old driver proceeded to a nearby car park before returning to the scene of the accident. Emergency services were swiftly dispatched.

Paramedics treated the injured woman at the roadside for significant head and leg injuries. She was subsequently transported by ambulance to Wollongong Hospital, where she was listed in a stable condition.
