Wellness Therapist Brutally Attacked in Sydney Apartment Building

A beloved wellness therapist is fighting to rebuild her life after she was brutally attacked inside her own Sydney apartment building by a former celebrity dentist who was shot dead by police. Christine Campeau, 56, has spent decades helping others heal, guiding them through pain, stress and trauma as a yoga teacher and breath‑work facilitator.

Random Frenzied Assault in Communal Laundry

On Tuesday morning, Campeau was in the communal laundry of her Potts Point building when a man she had never met launched a random, frenzied assault. Neighbours heard her scream as she was beaten in the face and head, suffering serious facial injuries and a broken nose. A second woman, 57-year-old Chloe Paul, was also attacked moments later and suffered extensive facial injuries.

Campeau was rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital and now faces weeks of physical recovery and emotional healing. The injuries have left her unable to work, cutting off the livelihood she has built through years of caring for others. Friends have launched a GoFundMe to support her through the weeks ahead, covering lost income along with medical and living expenses.

Community Support and Fundraising Efforts

This is our chance to give something back, the fundraiser said. If Christine has ever helped you find stillness or ease pain — please consider donating. Even if you don’t know her personally, your support will help raise awareness about violence against women and the safety of women in their own homes.

Attacker Identified as Former High-Profile Dentist

Police said the man responsible was 41‑year‑old Steven Lin — a once high‑profile dentist, best‑selling author and social media personality who had recently spiralled into drug use and run‑ins with the law. Lin broke into the building and was found rifling through residents’ laundry before the attacks. Officers say he then jumped from a window and came at police with a knife.

A taser was deployed. It was ineffective. One round was discharged by a police officer striking the male, Assistant Commissioner Peter McKenna said. Lin died at the scene. Detectives are now retracing Lin’s movements in the hours before the attack to determine why he entered the building and what state of mind he was in.

Ongoing Investigations and Critical Incident Review

A critical incident investigation has been declared, with the shooting to be reviewed by the Professional Standards Command and overseen by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission. Detectives are trying to unravel how a high-flying dentist ended up attacking two strangers before being shot dead by police in Sydney’s Potts Point.

The incident has shocked the local community and raised serious questions about building security and public safety. Campeau’s case highlights the vulnerability of individuals in their own homes and the long road to recovery after such traumatic events.
