New Video Reveals Critical Hat Detail in Search for Missing Boy Gus Lamont

South Australian Police have released a previously unseen video that provides a vital new clue in the case of missing four-year-old August "Gus" Lamont. The footage, made public on Tuesday, shows Gus smiling while wearing a distinctive wide-brimmed grey felt hat. Investigators have confirmed this is the same hat he was wearing when he disappeared 150 days ago, a detail that could significantly aid the search efforts.

Parents Break Silence in Emotional Appeal

In a heartfelt statement, Gus's parents have broken their silence, describing how their lives have been "shattered" since their son vanished on September 27. They issued an emotional plea, urging anyone with even the smallest piece of information to come forward. To help jog memories, they released new video and another photograph of Gus, expressing gratitude to police, emergency services, ADF personnel, volunteers, specialists, friends, and supporters for carrying them through "the darkest days of our lives."

Investigation Intensifies with Suspect Identified

The new clue emerges as South Australian Police have formally declared the case a major crime and confirmed they now have a suspect in Gus's disappearance. Detectives revealed that a person living at Oak Park Station, where Gus was last seen, has withdrawn cooperation and is considered a suspect, though police stress it is not either of Gus's parents. A forensic search of the homestead has been completed, with officers seizing a vehicle, a motorcycle, and electronic devices.

Search Efforts and Limited Clues

Gus was last seen playing outside the family's remote Oak Park Station homestead near Yunta while his grandmother cared for his younger brother inside. Despite one of the state's largest search operations—involving police, SES volunteers, Indigenous trackers, drones, and helicopters—no significant trace of the child has been found. The only confirmed physical clue remains a single footprint discovered about 500 meters from the property. Previously, investigators had only released an image of the Minions T-shirt Gus was last seen in, with the grey sun hat being the only other public detail.

Police maintain they are confident Gus did not simply wander off and that Task Force Horizon continues to pursue every lead in the ongoing investigation.
