Thornlie Man Hospitalised After Alleged Knife Attack Over Household Chores

Police have revealed that a domestic argument about household responsibilities allegedly escalated into a violent knife attack in Perth's southeastern suburbs, leaving a man with multiple stab wounds.

Violent Altercation in Thornlie Home

Emergency services were called to a property on Carakine Gr in Thornlie, approximately 20 kilometres southeast of Perth's central business district, around 10pm on Sunday night. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 47-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds to both his front and back.

The victim, identified as Matthew Lester, was transported to Royal Perth Hospital where he received treatment for injuries described as non-life-threatening. Police investigators allege that Lester's 47-year-old partner attacked him twice during the violent domestic incident.

Victim Describes Injuries and Concern for Partner

Despite his injuries, Lester later discharged himself from hospital and returned to the Thornlie residence. Speaking to media, he described the extent of his wounds, stating he had sustained "a reasonable size slice in my chest, collarbone area, and another two-inch slice in my left shoulder."

"Outside of that, I've got 20 or so staples and I'm okay," Lester added, showing visible signs of the attack. Blood stains remained visible on the ground outside the property where the alleged assault occurred.

Remarkably, Lester expressed more concern for his partner than for his own wellbeing. "(I'm) more worried about my partner than I am about anything," he told reporters. "I love my missus and I hope to see her home real soon."

Court Proceedings Reveal Alleged Motive

The 47-year-old woman appeared before Armadale Magistrates Court on Monday, charged with unlawful wounding with circumstances of aggravation. During proceedings, the court heard disturbing details about the alleged motive behind the attack.

Prosecutors revealed that during police interviews, the woman allegedly expressed frustration with her partner for "being lazy and not helping with the home." More alarmingly, she reportedly told officers about previous thoughts of stabbing him and expressed hope that she had hurt him badly during the incident.

The accused woman did not enter a plea during her brief court appearance. Magistrate refused bail, remanding her in custody until her next scheduled court hearing in March.

Ongoing Police Investigation

Western Australia Police confirmed that investigations into the Thornlie stabbing incident remain active and ongoing. The case highlights the potential for domestic disputes to escalate into serious violence, even over seemingly mundane household matters.

Domestic violence support services across Perth have reiterated the importance of seeking help before conflicts reach dangerous levels, noting that arguments about household responsibilities can sometimes mask deeper relationship tensions.
