Homicide Investigation Launched After Woman's Suspicious Death in Bellbird Park
A homicide investigation has been initiated following postmortem results into the death of a woman whose body was discovered inside a residence in Bellbird Park last week. Emergency services were called to a property on Beryl Court, approximately 30 minutes south-west of Brisbane, around 11:30 am on February 19 after reports of a disturbance in the street.
Discovery of the Deceased
Shortly after arriving, officers from the Queensland Police Service (QPS) located the woman deceased inside the home. Ipswich Detective Inspector Michael Manago identified the victim as Katherine Sanowski, a 42-year-old from Springfield. He confirmed that the disturbance prompting the police call involved a resident of the dwelling damaging property and interfering with traffic.
A house on Beryl Court remains cordoned off as detectives continue their investigation into what is now being treated as a suspicious death. Detective Inspector Manago stated, "We have conducted a postmortem which has identified some suspicious elements in regards to this death and as such we treat it like a homicide investigation."
Timeline and Investigation Details
Investigations suggest that Sanowski had been in the dwelling for about two weeks, dating back to early February. A crime scene was declared at the location. Police reported that a 34-year-old Bellbird Park resident was found nearby and taken to hospital for a medical assessment. This individual has not been arrested and has yet to speak with authorities.
Detective Inspector Manago noted that Sanowski had not been reported missing to the police and was not residing at the address, but was known to the occupant. "The dynamics of their relationship remain a key topic of our investigation," he said, adding that while they were known to each other, there are no previous reports of domestic violence between the parties involved.
Appeal for Information
Authorities are keeping an open mind but do not believe anyone else is involved at this stage. Officers are urging anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity around the Beryl Court property in early February or who has relevant CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward or contact Crime Stoppers.
Investigations into this tragic incident are ongoing as police work to uncover the full circumstances surrounding Katherine Sanowski's death.
